Repair work in difficult terrain.

The construction work in Wassen included the renewal of two railway bridges: the Wattingen path subway and the Strahlloch Bridge. In order to ensure unimpeded regular rail operations on the old Gotthard line, one track was closed for several weeks at a time. The construction work, which was carried out in several stages, had to be planned precisely and the corresponding procedures had to be strictly adhered to.

The path subway Wattingen is a railway bridge over an agricultural road. Since 1926, it has served as a replacement for a level crossing. First demolition work was carried out at night. Then the prefabricated concrete bridge elements were installed, also in night shifts. The final work was the repair of the natural stone wall.

The Strahlloch Bridge is 44 m long and spans the Mühlebach. The superstructure of the existing natural stone arch bridge was partially dismantled. This work was  carried out in meticulously planned night operations. Subsequently, a trough bridge was built, which now also serves as a base layer for the waterproofing. This project was  completed with repair work on the shield wall and the lower surface of the bridge.
