PORR awarded two new railway construction tenders in Poland - Tender volume: Approx. EUR 12m

Vienna, 7 May 2015 – The Polish subsidiary of PORR AG, PORR Polska, has succeeded once again through its expertise in railway construction and won two new tenders: modernising stretches of the 273 and 272 railway lines. The projects should be realised using the design-build method, whereby the design of the two construction projects is already underway. Full completion of the works is set for this year. The total tender value of the two lines is around EUR 12m.

A complete overhaul of the 13.3km-long track superstructure is about to realised on Line 273, colloquially known as the “or line”, on the stretch between Chojna and Dolna Odra. Parts of the catenary will also be replaced. “In the meantime we have become quite familiar with Line 273. The new tender is already our sixth order on this line which is particularly important for freight transport, as it links up the Lower Silesia region around Wrocław and Szczecin with the Baltic Sea. It is also a real testament to the trust our client, Polish rail PKP PLK, has in us”, said PORR CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss.

The second tender involves overhauling 15.7km of track and 8 switches on Line 272 on the stretch Antonin to Ostrów Wielkopolski. In addition the project involves the new construction of a platform, renovating the engineering structures along the stretch such as bridges and passages, as well as upgrading the surface on 10 railway crossings. This will also not be the first time for PORR on this line, which links the industrial region of Upper Silesia with the major city of Poznań. In April 2014 PORR began modernisation works on the 60km-long stretch between Kluczbork and Ostrzeszów. The works are on schedule and will be completed this year in August.

“We launched our activities in the Polish railway construction sector in 2010 with a comprehensive market analysis. As early as the following year we were rewarded with our first order. We have already been involved in 16 rail construction projects – a pleasing sign that our customers are satisfied with the quality of our work and with our PORR Polska team. Our suppliers and subcontractors also consider us a good partner”, said Karl-Heinz Strauss. “The two new tenders bring us a step closer to our goal of becoming one of the top five companies in Polish railway construction. It’s clear that we are on the right track”, concluded Strauss.
