Further “intelligent growth” for PORR in Polish rail construction

Projects totalling almost EUR 100m currently underway.

Vienna, 17 February 2014
 – 2014 PORR is expanding its position on the Polish rail construction market and currently has two major projects underway, railway lines 18 and 132. In the past year PORR has already modernised over 150km of the Polish rail network, while for 2014 and beyond the construction company has forecast similarly strong output thanks to the high investment budget of the Polish railways (PKP PLK). PORR and PKP PLK recently signed a contract for the modernisation of the 272 line from Kluczbork to Ostrzeszów(60km). The order is worth EUR 49m, PORR’s largest railway project in Poland to date, and the work including planning is set to take 19 months.

Austria’s market leader is a full service provider in railway construction. In addition to upgrading the rail track, PORR will also build or replace the signalling system, overhead lines, platforms, crossings and other facilities and systems related to the railway.

On the 132 line, which runs from Wrocław via Opole to Upper Silesia, PORR is upgrading 35 kilometres of double track including 44 railroad switches and the overhead lines. This is complemented by the new construction 10 platforms, modernising 22 level crossings and overhauling numerous bridges and passages. The tender is worth around EUR 43.5m.

Construction work on the 18 line between Bydgoszcz and Torun has been underway since August 2012 and is now in the final stages. To date, every interim deadline set by the developers has been met and the completion of the main works (including opening to traffic) was achieved three months earlier than the contractual completion date (April 2014). A total of 93km of track and 54 railroad switches were overhauled; the tender is worth around EUR 39m.

PORR classifies Poland as one of its home markets, as the company is very well positioned here in both building construction and infrastructure. CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss believes the “intelligent growth” strategy has paid off: “Rail construction is one of PORR’s core competencies and we are also a technology leader with patents such as the Slab Track Austria system. With our innovative solutions, advanced expertise and excellent quality throughout the service range, we are working hard to become one of Poland’s top providers in railway construction”.
